What is Pink Gin?
Originally popularized by the British Royal Navy in the 19th century, pink gin was created by adding a dash of angostura bitters to regular gin to combat seasickness. In the modern era, pink gin has evolved, and one of the favorites is Gordon’s Pink Gin. Blushing with delightful hints of red fruits like strawberries, raspberries, and red currants, this gin brings a touch of sweetness that sets it apart from traditional gin varieties. What is a Spritz?
The fascinating history of the Spritz cocktail traces back to the Germans, who fondly call it “spritzen” – to spray. It’s an intriguing tale from the 19th century when the Austro-Hungarian troops graced the enchanting land of Veneto, Italy. Picture this: their arrival in the region immediately led to an overwhelming desire for Italian wine, as one would naturally do. Now, here’s the captivating urban legend that surrounds this delightful drink. It suggests that the local Italian wine they encountered might have packed a bit more punch than they were accustomed to. As resourceful souls, they decided to add a splash of water to the wine – a clever move that gave birth to the beloved Spritz cocktail we cherish today. So, there you have it, the genesis of the Spritz, courtesy of the creative minds of those historical Austro-Hungarian troops. Cheers to the timeless allure of the Spritz!
Notes on Ingredients & Substitutions

As always, quality ingredients are so important to make this delicious cocktail.

Pink Gin
Gordon’s Pink Gin is a good option for this drink. Other pink gin options are Beefeaters Pink Strawberry Gin, or Malfy Gin Rosa. Can’t find Pink Gin? Swap in your favorite gin, adding a few dashes of angostura bitters, a classic bitter liqueur, and a dash of grapefruit juice and fresh strawberry juice from muddling your strawberries.

Prosecco
I prefer a super dry Prosecco, like a Brut, to balance out the sweetness of the lemonade. Better yet, a Spanish Cava is often even drier than Prosecco. Other options include a dry sparkling wine or even a dry champagne.
Fever-Tree Lemonade
Fever-Tree Sparkling Sicilian Lemonade is my absolute favorite mixer for cocktails. Fresh squeezed lemonade will be perfect here as well.
Fresh Strawberries
In season and fresh strawberries are perfect for this summertime drink. Or try fresh raspberries as another option.
Ice
And lots of it. This will keep your sparkling drink chilled on a hot summer night. Try for a medium cube of ice, rather than crushed ice or smaller cubes. The smaller cubes will melt too quickly in your drink and water it down immediately.
How to Make This Cocktail
Step 1 — Muddle Away
Muddle the strawberries in a glass or bowl, adding to the bottom of each wine glass.
Step 2 — Add the Spirits
Add Gordon’s Pink Gin and Fever Tree lemonade, gently stirring.
Step 3 — Ice It Up
Add in ice cubes. And top with a Prosecco, again mixing well.
Step 4 — Garnish

Fresh Squeezed Lemonade Works Too
Can’t find Fever-Tree Lemonade? Fresh squeezed lemonade will work in a pinch — simply make a simple syrup. Then combine water, fresh squeezed lemons and the simple syrup and stir. Voila! You now have fresh squeezed lemonade.
Stirred, Not Shaken
Avoid a shaker if you are including sparkling lemonade and bubbly prosecco. Mixing gently with a spoon is your best bet when bubbles are involved.

Pin ItMake Ahead
While it’s best to prepare the Pink Gin Spritz fresh to enjoy its vibrant flavors, you can mix the gin, lime juice, and simple syrup in advance and store it in the refrigerator. When ready to serve, muddle the strawberries, add the mixture, top up with soda water, and proceed with the garnishes.
How to Store
This refreshing drink is best enjoyed immediately after preparation. However, if you have leftover cocktail mixture, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Remember to add fresh soda water and garnishes when serving.
